Apollonias for Good offers comprehensive and free dental treatment to women who have experienced situations of violence and had their teeth affected during the aggressions.
Since 2012, when it began to be developed, the program has already guaranteed assistance to more than 1,100 cisgender and transgender women from all over Brazil. The beneficiaries are selected through screening, when they undergo a rapid oral examination, non-invasive, and respond to the OHIP (which stands for Oral Health Impact Profile), a scientific tool that measures the impact of oral health on a person’s quality of life.
Priority is given to women with more serious dental problems and higher OHIP, who support their families and have resumed their studies or are taking professional training courses.
Treatments are offered through a network of volunteer dentists who perform all the procedures that women need, regardless of the complexity presented. Once enrolled in the program, the beneficiaries and the professionals who assist them are monitored by Turma do Bem employees until the treatments are completed.
A historical character, Apollonia lived in Alexandria and died in 249, after being arrested, beaten and having her teeth shattered and extracted. With the project, TdB offers dental care to the “today’s Apollonias”, who also stamp the mark of violence on their faces.
When contacting Tdb via WhatsApp +55 11 96579-3913 or a volunteer and asking for treatment, a police report of the suffered aggression will be requested. Subsequently, an interview and a clinical examination will be carried out.
Through screenings in support houses for victims of violence carried out by TdB.
Through screening with women from the Courts of Justice or Specialized Committees of the Courts, according to the protocol signed by each partnership.
